Unearthed
A sculpture installation by artist Stephen Talasnik
October 19 - 28, 2018
We are excited to announce our first indoor exhibition in the Olivier Music Barn at Tippet Rise Art Center: a sculpture installation by artist Stephen Talasnik, who, in 2016, created the large-scale yellow cedar and corten steel sculpture for Tippet Rise, Satellite #5: Pioneer.
Unearthed will feature a new work called Hive, a site-specific, organic, habitable, architectural sculpture that will be hand-woven in situ and serve as a performance space large enough to accommodate a solo performer. It will also include a collection of models from his original Satellite Series, a project inspired by the “Transmitter Series,” a waterborne collaboration with the Buckminster Fuller Institute sited on the East River in New York City for floating habitats.
The exhibition coincides with the release of Talasnik’s newest monograph, Unearthed: Stephen Talasnik by Monacelli Press, a book that explores the artist’s drawings, sculptures, and installations, from his monolithic ephemeral amphitheater Stream at Storm King Art Center in 2009 to his most recent work at Tippet Rise.
