On June 28 and 29, Montana InSite Theatre (MIST) returns to Tippet Rise for its fourth annual walking production at the art center – “Resounding Trees: Words and Notes on the Rise.” These approximately 80-minute-long tours move visitors between several different artworks and locations throughout the main Cottonwood Campus and encourage audiences to experience Shakespeare in original and meaningful ways.
“Resounding Trees: Words and Notes on the Rise,” Montana InSite Theatre’s fourth production at Tippet Rise, focuses this year on how human lives are intertwined with trees. As they hear poetry, songs, and scenes from Anton Chekhov, James Merrill, William Shakespeare, Ovid, Indigenous storytellers, and others, guests will move between performances within Tippet Rise’s main Cottonwood Campus, which notably features several artworks deeply connected to trees, including Xylem by Francis Kéré, Iron Tree by Ai Weiwei, and Daydreams and Cursive Takes a Holiday by Patrick Dougherty. The program culminates at the Tiara Acoustic Shell with a string quartet performance of composer Eric Funk’s new work “Trees, Op. 139,” inspired by Richard Powell’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Overstory.
Four separate tours will be offered on Saturday and Sunday, June 28 and 29, each lasting approximately 80 minutes. Reservations are required. The cost is $10 per person, free to guests 21 and under (reservations are still required for those 21 and under). Lunch will be available for purchase from Will’s Shed, including an assortment of to-go style sandwiches, bowls, snacks, and drinks prepared by Red Lodge-based Samurai Sue’s Everyday Foods.
