Watch the acclaimed St. Lawrence String Quartet perform Haydn, Berger, and Golijov
September 9, 2021
In July 2019, the SLSQ presented a gorgeous performance at Tippet Rise of works by contemporary composers Jonathan Berger and Osvaldo Golijov, as well as one of Haydn’s enthralling “Sun” quartets. Written in 1772 when the composer was 40, the Opus 20 quartets are widely considered to be not only exquisite masterpieces but works that changed the course of music. The SLSQ’s dynamic performance took place in the Olivier Music Barn and left us breathless. To join us as we revisit that extraordinary evening, please click here.
About the St. Lawrence String Quartet
Established in Toronto in 1989, the SLSQ quickly earned contest prizes and acclaim and was soon performing hundreds of concerts around the world. Today the quartet, ensemble-in-residence at Stanford University, is known for its intensity of performances and breadth of repertoire. Of the SLSQ, The New Yorker said, “no other North American quartet plays the music of Haydn with more intelligence, expressivity, and force” (and the truth of this was evident that July 2019 night). To read more about this “irrepressible” quartet (Los Angeles Times) that has “a rare gift for combining interpretive spontaneity and fierce musical commitment” (The New York Times), please click here.
We hope you are as enthralled by the SLSQ’s performance as we were. For details on this and other online concerts available to stream on-demand for free, please visit our Virtual Events page.
