Established in Toronto in 1989, the SLSQ quickly earned contest prizes and acclaim and was soon performing hundreds of concerts around the world. Today the quartet, ensemble-in-residence at Stanford University, is known for its intensity of performances and breadth of repertoire. Of the ensemble, The New Yorker said, “no other North American quartet plays the music of Haydn with more intelligence, expressivity, and force.“ The New York Times said the SLSQ has, “a rare gift for combining interpretive spontaneity and fierce musical commitment.”
It was our pleasure to welcome the members of the SLSQ back to Tippet Rise on Friday, July 19, 2019, and to premier the recording of their performance on the Tippet Rise website on September 9, 2021.
