The pianist Jenny Chen has performed at Tippet Rise each year since the 2016 inaugural season. In the process, she has built an adoring and devoted audience in this region, and has become our beloved friend. During Jenny’s visit to the art center last summer, she played an ambitious selection of pieces by Chopin and Beethoven and she performed a delightful concert for children and their families. She also spoke with our podcast producer, Zachary Patten, for this month’s podcast episode. The two discussed Jenny’s “total devotion to music,” beginning with her childhood in Taiwan (when her “devotion” sometimes had to be prompted by her father) through her studies at Curtis, Yale, and the Eastman School of Music. They also discussed her signature piece and how it helped to bring her to Tippet Rise. And Jenny shared very personal thoughts with Zack, about the challenges of being separated from her close-knit family. To listen to this inspiring and touching episode, click on the link below.
