Reflections and looking toward 2025

For many of our guests, it takes a great deal of effort to visit the art center. Even artists and musicians, who are accustomed to traveling the world for performances, discover that making their way to Fishtail, Montana is a different kind of journey. Our hope, always, is that all our visitors – both out-of-town and local friends – find a quietness and simplicity in the synergies among art, music, and nature, and the chance to recharge before setting back out in their daily lives.

During a concert weekend, musicians often stay on-site for several days – rehearsing, walking the land, joining communal meals in Will’s Shed, engaging with the local community, and collaborating with other artists and members of our team. It is one of our favorite aspects of the concert season, and we like to think it is these moments, between the concerts, that inspire many of the musicians to come back for additional seasons.

Recognizing that each artist came to their careers in such different ways, our in-house filmmaker spoke with guitarist JIJI, Sandbox Percussion’s Ian Rosenbaum, Dior Quartet’s Noa Sarid, The Westerlies’ Riley Mulherkar, violinist Madara Pētersone, composer Douglas Cuomo, and pianist Jenny Chen about what led them to pursue music. As we look toward a new year, we hope you enjoy these reflections on some of their first steps to becoming the artists they are today.

There is already so much to look forward to in 2025. Tippet Rise’s tenth concert season (August 15 – September 14), features co-commissions of works by composers Gabriella Smith for yMusic, Don Byron, Ted Hearne, and a world premiere by Angélica Negrón for Brooklyn Rider.

Debuts in 2025 will include pianists Inon Barnatan, Asiya Korepanova, and Alexander Ullman; violinists Lun Li and Melissa White; bassist Lizzie Burns; and ensembles yMusic and Brooklyn Rider. Returning performers include pianists Sir Stephen Hough and George Li, violinist Benjamin Beilman, violist Jordan Bak, bassoonist Monica Ellis, and flutist Brandon Patrick George.

Additional artists and complete concert season program details will be announced in early 2025. Registration for the randomized drawing for concert tickets opens on the website in early spring, followed by registration for hiking, biking, and sculpture van tours. For the latest information on visiting in 2025, please sign-up for our e-newsletter. Newly released concert footage from past seasons, as well as other video and recording projects, continue to be released on a regular basis and can be found within our Music Download Library and YouTube channel.

Best wishes for a happy new year!
