Fall film projects and releases

October 14, 2025

Mother Nature set the perfect rhythm for our season, with snow falling on the sculptures on opening day in June and again on the final day for hikers and bikers in October. In the months between, there was an abundance of bright and sunny days, perfect for the many concerts, theatrical performances, poetry readings, and more that took place outdoors. We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this season extraordinary—the more than 50 musicians who shared their talents with us and the many seasonal teammates who kept everything running smoothly. Planning for next year is already underway, with dates to be announced soon.

In the months ahead, we are excited to welcome artists who will use this quieter time at the art center for recording projects and creative residencies. While much of this work takes place behind the scenes, one such project is now available in full: Immensity, a three-part film series about Ensamble Studio.

Volume III – The Architecture of the Earth, the final film of Hamid Shams’ three-part series about Ensamble Studio, debuted last week at a screening in New York City. The films, which showcase the careers of Antón García-Abril and Débora Mesa – architects behind the Domo, Beartooth Portal, Inverted Portal, and the Folds at Tippet Rise – are now available to stream on the Tippet Rise website and YouTube.

“Since the moment I saw photographs of Ensamble Studio’s architecture at Tippet Rise, I was captivated and wanted to find out more about the artists behind those structures,” stated filmmaker Hamid Shams. “When I finally had the opportunity to experience these works – touching the surfaces, looking at them against majestic landscape – I was struck by the immensity of each of the pieces.”

Volume III follows Ensamble’s exploration of earthy materials, a journey that began early in their careers and led to the transformation of an abandoned quarry on the island of Menorca, Spain into Can Terra (“the house of the earth”). Can Terra has become an inspiring laboratory for Ensamble Studio to explore and push the boundaries of their discoveries and designs further.

The film concludes with the Music of Can Terra, composed and performed by violinist Hilary Hahn, who also performs one of the six partitas written by the late composer Antón García-Abril.

Staying in touch
Our social media channels offer a window into the ongoing work at the art center, our many collaborators and partners, Tippet Rise in the news, and the beauty of the ever-changing landscape. Each Friday, we also share performance films from past concert seasons on our YouTube channel and website. Several more concert films from the 2024 season are still to come, followed by performances from this year.

We wish you a wonderful fall!
