Above Strands of Earth: Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation at Tippet Rise
January 26, 2023
Starting today, January 26, we are delighted to share a new poetry film series – Above Strands of Earth: Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation at Tippet Rise. This project was created in partnership with our sister organization, the Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation, and produced in collaboration with the Academy of American Poets.
Every Thursday for the next twelve weeks, we will release a new film featuring five different Rocky Mountain West-based poets – including Brian Blanchfield, CMarie Fuhrman, Sean Hill, Keetje Kuipers, and M.L. Smoker, in addition to our co-founder Peter Halstead – who each offered readings of their own poems and favorites by poets that inspire them. Directed by Irish photographer and filmmaker Matthew Thompson, the films were captured in locations on the land at Tippet Rise and throughout the art center’s artistic spaces.
The series kicks off with poet CMarie Fuhrman reading “The Sandhills” by Linda Hogan, from which the title of this project, Above Strands of Earth, was taken. Fuhrman is the author of Camped Beneath the Dam: Poems (Floodgate 2020) and co-editor of Native Voices (Tupelo 2019), and her writing has appeared in many journals and anthologies. She is currently the Idaho Writer in Residence. Linda Hogan is a distinguished Chickasaw poet, novelist, essayist, and environmentalist whose work is intimately connected to her political and spiritual concerns.
Whether you are passionate about poetry, new to it, or simply curious, we invite you to take a moment each week to listen and reflect on these words which map the many invisible connections between language, land, sound, and vision.
Please join us and Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation each Thursday for new releases, and follow our collaborative posts on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
