A piece of work: Shakespeare on the Rise with Montana InSite Theatre

July 19, 2022

Tippet Rise and Montana InSite Theatre (MIST) are jointly presenting a new program in 2022 titled “A piece of work: Shakespeare on the Rise”.

On August 20 and 21, MIST will lead several small audience groups on guided hour-long walking tours to locations throughout Tippet Rise’s main Cottonwood Campus. At each stop, MIST artists will perform Shakespearean speeches, songs, or poetry inspired by the specific locations in which they are placed. As the audience is led from one spot to the next, the discrete performances build into an organic whole that draw upon the sculptures, structures, and landscapes of Tippet Rise.

There will be six walking productions offered on both August 20 and 21, beginning at 11 AM. Reservations are required. The cost is $10 per person, free to guests 21 and under (reservations are still required for those 21 and under). Puchase your tickets now.

The first walking production departs at 11 AM followed by 11:20 AM, 11:40 AM, 12 PM, 12:20 PM, 12:40 PM (there are six guided tours on each day). Each experience includes stops at on and around Tippet Rise’s main campus, including at the newly reimagined Daydreams by Patrick Dougherty, the newly installed sculpture Iron Tree by Ai Weiwei, Xylem by Francis Kéré, and “Cathy’s Meadow.” Guests who attend one of these events are welcome to stay and explore Tippet Rise’s main Cottonwood Campus after their tour with MIST.

We are honored to have the opportunity to collaborate with MIST, which is dedicated to site-specific, outdoor productions inspired by classical texts. The company’s objective is to immerse audiences in natural environments while they listen to and watch performers who present poetry, dramatic scenes, music, and art. Experiencing these performances in specific sites raises audience awareness and gives them a fully embodied experience.
