Kremer and Avdeeva

This weekend marks the Tippet Rise debuts of violinist Gidon Kremer, one of the most original and compelling artists of his generation, and violinist Madara Pētersone, a leading member of the renowned chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica, which Kremer founded in 1997 to foster outstanding young musicians from the Baltic States. Born in Latvia, Kremer has championed the work of living Russian and Eastern European composers throughout his five-decade-long career, including that of Valentyn Silvestrov, Ukraine’s most important composer. In 2022, Tippet Rise commissioned ten works by Silvestrov, three of which were performed last year. As part of this poignant program, Kremer will be joined by pianist Yulianna Avdeeva, who returns to Tippet Rise following a mesmerizing recital in 2022, to perform Silvestrov’s Hommage à J.S. Bach for Violin and Piano (quasi echo) and the World Premiere of the Tippet Rise Commission Three Serenades for Violin and Piano. Avdeeva will then share the World Premiere and Tippet Rise Commission of Silvestrov’s Five Bagatelles for Solo Piano, Op. 301. In addition to works by Silvestrov, Kremer, Pētersone, and Avdeeva will perform works by composers Johannes Brahms, Sofia Gubaidulina, and Alfred Schnittke, the latter of whom pokes fun at the musical art of performance and composers of the past through his neo-classical work titled Moz-art à la Haydn for Two Violins.

Avdeeva and Kremer are managed by SHELDON ARTISTS LLC / R. Douglas Sheldon. Avdeeva’s recordings are available on ECM, Deutsche Grammophon, Mirare, and Pentatone. Kremer’s recordings are available on Deutsche Grammophon, ECM, Nonesuch, and Accentus.
