Virtual recitals from Europe's new Jardin Musical
November 7, 2020
Julien Brocal created Jardin Musical this past spring, when concert halls began shuttering and musicians around the world were faced with the prospect of no income for the foreseeable future. A nonprofit organization that produces concerts in Julien’s Brussels atelier, and in other artists’ homes, Jardin Musical streams the performances online for the world to enjoy — and the performers are supported in the process.
A brilliant pianist and composer whose musicianship is celebrated internationally, Julien is known as much in our region for his warmth and openheartedness as he is for his music. He has performed at Tippet Rise and been an artist-in-residence here, composing and recording, walking the land, and reaching out to our neighbors in multiple ways.
Jardin Musical seems a natural extension of Julien’s generosity and kindness and we are honored to be partnering with him in this wonderful enterprise. Beginning today, we will share select concerts from Jardin Musical for you to stream from our website. They include a rooftop recital by Franco-Belgian cellist Camille Thomas of Casta Diva by the 19th century Italian librettist and composer, Vincenzo Bellini, and a stunning performance of Arvo Pärt’s Vater Unser by young treble Cai Thomas (called by The Times “a sign of hope in a darkened world”), accompanied by Julien.
