New This Fall from Tippet Rise

We’re thankful for this spotlight on the incredible musicians who come to perform at Tippet Rise and our beautiful surroundings “that make you feel as if you’re listening inside the land rather than around it.”
In true Montana style, a burst of cool and wet weather punctuated both the opening and closing weekends of the concert season, a reminder that fall is near. The black bears, of course, know it too. Earlier this month, a mama and her triplets spent an entire day chewing chokecherries by the stream along the Meridian Trail, leading to its brief, but worthy, closure.
Hiking and biking at the art center continues Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through October 4. Advance registration is required and reservations are free of charge.
Additionally, on Saturday, October 3 at 2:00 PM, members of the Montana Youth Symphony will present a concert in the Olivier Music Barn. The program includes works by Brahms, Dvorak, Shostakovich, and Mozart, and features a chamber orchestra of alumni of the Montana Youth Symphony summer festival orchestra alongside pianist Tanner Jorden.
On Sunday, October 4 at 3:00 PM, Montana Shakespeare in the Schools, an educational program of Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, returns with a live performance of The Comedy of Errors. Directed by Kevin Asselin, the production is geared toward middle and high school students, but enjoyable for all ages – presenting a fast-paced and engaging performance, including a live band.

Spirits Out of Trees
Documenting the interwoven stories of two architectural works, the book Spirits Out of Trees: Francis Kéré. Gando / Montana is the latest collaboration between architect Francis Kéré and Tippet Rise co-founders Cathy and Peter Halstead.
The book explores how trees—literal and metaphorical—inform Kéré’s design language. At Tippet Rise, Xylem evokes the spiritual and structural intelligence of trees, offering a space of quiet communion and passive cooling. In Kéré’s hometown community of Gando, Burkina Faso, the Naaba Belem Goumma Secondary School transforms local materials into a living, breathing environment for education, shaped by and for its community. Recordings and Releases
Pianist Yulianna Avdeeva’s new album, Metanoia, was released on August 28, coinciding with her third concert season appearance. Recorded at Tippet Rise and released by PENTATONE, the album explores late works by Franz Liszt and highlights his evolution from virtuoso to visionary. Listen now here!
Additionally, the second and third singles from cellist Arlen Hlusko’s forthcoming album komorebi, out in full on September 25, were recently released by Tippet Rise.
Composed by Dawn Avery and commissioned by Tippet Rise, Àkweks Katye (The Eagle Flies), tells a musical story of an eagle from the perspective of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), and the belief passed down from Avery’s Haudenosaunee elders that this majestic creature – the àkweks – carries our spirit “from the stars into the waters” at birth, and eventually back to the Sky world.
In comparison, Bach’s Allemande from Suite No. 5 provides, as Hlusko states, a “beautiful juxtaposition of new and old,” and demonstrates “how Bach’s music continues to shape music created today.”
