Listen to “The Deep Has Always Known Me” by Brandon Patrick George and Bryan Wagorn
May 29, 2026
Released today by PENTATONE, Grammy-winning flutist Brandon Patrick George’s and pianist Bryan Wagorn’s new album, “The Deep Has Always Known Me,” presents works by Franz Schubert, Carl Reinecke, Lili Boulanger, Florence Price, and William Grant Still. Recorded at Tippet Rise’s Olivier Music Barn and produced by the art center’s in-house team in 2022, the album grew from a desire to create something meaningful after a long period of separation due to pandemic and is centered on themes of love, loss, and solace.
The artists shared, “This repertoire invites reflection and introspection, but it also mirrors the way we make music together: through close listening, trust, and a shared emotional language that extends beyond the page. These pieces have become part of our personal dialogue, shaped by the bond we share and the way we breathe, phrase, and respond to one another in real time.”
Romantic repertoire forms the album’s foundation, with works by Franz Schubert and Carl Reinecke exploring longing and devotion through literary narratives and nature-infused sound worlds. Music by Lili Boulanger, Florence Price, and William Grant Still expands this expressive journey with warmth, intimacy, and richness of color.
In addition to “The Deep Has Always Known Me,” Tippet Rise was proud to collaborate with PENTATONE on pianist Yulianna Avdeeva’s album “Chopin: Voyage,” which was awarded a Diapason d'or de l’année in January 2026. Avdeeva’s all-Liszt album, also recorded at Tippet Rise, will be released by PENTATONE later this year.
